Stock Gaylard Oak Fair 2008

Creating a tradition with the ongoing success of the Stock Gaylard Oak Fair last year, we
are delighted to continue the theme as an annual event. We intend to retain the
relaxed atmosphere  and character of  a traditional country fair,
whilst introducing new ideas each year.

The Oak Fair will be laid out using the features in the church park
to provide a setting for each type of activity.

THE MARKET SQUARE
  Enjoy delicious fresh food and drink, from local Dorset producers on sale
to eat straightaway or take home.

OAK AVENUE
Watch the skill of the craftsmen who create and construct out of oak and other
woodland products.

CONSERVATION ROW
  Enter into lively debate and ask advice about the management of our countryside
and wildlife by talking to our experts.

DELL LANE
Stroll amongst people whose skills are inspired by our unique local countryside

THE DEMO & MACHINERY YARD
Join the enthusiasts displaying an exciting array of traditional and modern working
machinery for all woodland management solutions.

THE RE-BIRTH OF A DORSET OAK
This will be a one off special, where Adam's Axemen will fell a dead oak tree situated within the Church Park.
The tree will then be sawn up and distributed by horse around the site for planking and other uses.

The idea is that ALL the tree will be utilised. We hope that many of our exhibitors will take some of the wood
or wood products to use on the day or over the next year and returning to the 2009 Oak Fair with
their finished products.

Exhibitors that we would like to see involved in this process will include: charcoal makers / tree surgeons/
Smoke Houses/Wood Chip Production / Fire Wood Production/ Furniture Makers/ Green Oak Building/
Wood Carvers/ Yurt Makers/Toy Makers/ Oak Cleaving/ Rustic Furniture/ Craft and Gift producers etc./
Competitions to guess the height and age prior to felling/ Historical mapping of the tree rings.

If you would like to be actively involved in the promotionof this idea either in terms of sponsorship or
helping to manage the projectwe would like to hear from you. At the 5th Stock Gaylard Fair in 2009 we
will have an exhibition of all the products that have come from the tree.
