NEW FOR 2018!
Glamping Bus, Horsebox & Bunkhouse.
The new group glamping site featuring our very own double-decker bus! The site will be able to sleep 11 comfortably between the bus (5), bunkhouse (4) and a yurt (2), all built on the Stock Gaylard estate.
For a number of years Andrew has toyed with the idea of converting an open topped double decker bus. The original concept was that people should be able to enjoy the countryside from an elevated position.
Having run their yurt glamping sites, Andrew was aware of the need for accommodating larger groups of people but didn’t want to cram them all into the bus. So the idea of a bunkhouse to go with the bus was born. Gordon Rendle had started building a quality shed but didn’t have the time to finish it. The bunkhouse you see today was roofed by Gordon, walled by Brent Keeble and finished by Kamil Banasiak using Andrews ever changing ideas!
Thus having located and bought the double decker bus which originated on the Isle of Wight and known as the Island Breezer before moving to Norfolk and taking tourists around Muckleburgh and Cromer under the guise of the Norfolk Coaster. Initially six beds were built downstairs by Brent Keeble, but after an experimental weekend with a hen do organised by Andrew’s daughter Anna, it was decided to give more room downstairs by removing one of the bunks.
Upstairs the seats were turned inward to make an area suitable for inclement weather during the great British summertime! Brent then built the kitchen with a raised roof for more comfortable use. He then designed and built the seating area on the open top part of the bus that you see today.
Parsons Camp is situated between the bottom corners of Brickles Wood and Parsons Copse with views across the Dorset countryside looking towards Bulbarrow hill. This group glamping site comprises the open topped double-decker bus with Bunkhouse, Shepherds Hut and Horsebox and Yurt.
The Bunkhouse contains one double bed and two single bunks above. With the additional two man yurt this gives the site a total bed capacity for eleven people. Whilst there is only seating for nine undercover in the bus there are plates and cutlery for eleven.
There is a towed horsebox that contains a gas heated shower/bath with a table and basin. Beside the horsebox is an original small shepherd's hut which contains a table with basin, urinal and modern compost toilet. The whole site is plumbed with mains water.
The site is child friendly and we welcome up to two dogs on this site. Hen do's are also welcome at Parson's Camp.
There are excellent train links nearby at Sherborne, from there Stock Gaylard is a 10 minute taxi ride, there is a taxi office at the station.
We recommend Dike & Son, our local family run supermarket in Stalbridge for groceries. They sell a range of local produce plus all the well known brands you use everyday.
In addition we can provide Venison from the estate POA.
It really is a wonderfully surreal experience eating your lunch on the open top deck of a double decker bus, such a man made, city dwelling thing, given a new lease of life and nestled in it’s own patch of countryside with not another soul for miles around. You feel completely at one with nature, enjoying a height and a view usually only accessible to the birds – there is something very thrilling and playful about the whole experience. The bus itself has been lovingly transformed, and as many of the original features preserved, for example the bus seats and various buttons. It really brings out the excited child in you, I defy you to not instantly want to sit in the front seat and pretend to be the driver. The attention to detail is marvelous, and as always with Josie and Andrew’s spaces, the hospitality is second to none.
