Stock Gaylard Yurt Holidays fits in with our ethos of conservation and preservation.
Our yurts cause no permanent damage to the land and the dark green canvas covering is in harmony with their surroundings.
The location of our yurts is idyllic. They are set within The Stock Gaylard Estate, 1,700 acres of North Dorset’s most spectacular countryside, which includes 300 acres of mostly oak woodland and an enclosed 80 acre deer park with a large picturesque lake.
Staying in one of our yurts is the perfect way to enjoy this unspoiled and stunning scenery. The hedgerows and woodlands have been preserved for over 200 years, allowing you to catch sight of the abundance of rare species of animal and plant life that have established. Birdwatchers and botanists alike will find plenty to fuel their passion.
This is a perfect place to soak up the sights and sounds of nature right on your doorstep. Unwind and relax as you roam around the estate, taking in its splendour, then fall asleep to the “sound of silence”.
Come and experience the peace, tranquility and beauty that makes Stock Gaylard Yurt Holidays the ultimate camping adventure.
Our Yurts have had great reviews in the press recently:
Swindon Advertiser - And then there were three "get close to nature in 1,700 acres of countryside", "Perfect for sissies who want their canvas to come with (nearly) all mod cons.", "our toes – and marshmallows – toasting on the roaring blaze was magical"
Birmingham Post - Luxury under the canvas of a yurt in Dorset "more comfortable than my bed at home", "site was beautiful", "for people who love waking to the freshness of a dew-damp day"
This is Exeter - Natural Luxuries in the Heart of Dorset "It would appear that the nomadic tribes of Mongolia knew a thing or two about camping in style. But, in my opinion, they would have been hard pushed to find a better site for their yurts than the beautiful Stock Gaylard Estate in North Dorset..."
Our Luxury Yurts... Our yurts are modeled on the traditional Mongolian yurt, which was first created over 2,500 years ago and is still home to almost three-quarters of the population of Mongolia.
All the ash wood for the steam bent latticed wall sections, roof poles and crowns of our yurts comes from the estate woodland. Each yurt has been skillfully handcrafted on site by Jamie Ross, a well-known and gifted local furniture maker, who has also designed and made much of our unique ‘yurt furniture’.
Spacious and welcoming,, the yurts stand on wooden platforms, set up in groups of three – two bedroom yurts, each with a double bed and two singles, and a kitchen/living yurt. They are stylishly and individually furnished allowing you to enjoy the simple pleasures of the outdoors without sacrificing any comforts. All your needs are provided for, including bed linen, duvets, pillows, rugs and kitchen equipment.
Both indoor and outdoor lighting, as well as the hot water for showers are solar powered, which fits in with our aim to offer you a holiday with minimum impact on the environment and maximum comfort, luxury and serenity.
Brickles Yurts are situated on the edge of the 60 acre Brickles wood.
The yurts face south east with far reaching views over the Blackmore Vale towards the chalk downs of Bulbarrow.
Brickles wood is a beautiful mixed wood which includes mature oaks, hazel coppice along with stands of pine and beech.
This creates a superb diversity of habitats for birds and butterflies to thrive. Barn Owls and foxes can often been seen hunting the woodland edges.
Withybed Yurts are positioned beside a farm track near to the Deer Park.
This set is facing west to maximise the stunning sunsets. Roe deer often come and graze between the wood and field edges. Tawny and Barn owls will be heard most nights. In May and June listen out for the Nightingale too.
A small seasonal stream runs below the site.
